Can I earn credits by completing a short course?

No. Short courses are not accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and therefore have no credit value. 

Do I need to apply for a visa to study a micro-credential?

No. Because you are studying from your home country you don’t need a visa to enrol in the micro-credentials on the Mission New Zealand platform. 

Is there a scholarship available for a micro-credential?

Unfortunately, there are no scholarships available.

Can I use the credits earned later to study in New Zealand?

It is possible that you will be able to use the credits earned through the micro-credentials toward another qualification in New Zealand. There will be specific processes to follow at the institution you want to study. 

How can I provide evidence of meeting the language requirements? 

Each micro-credential may have specific English language requirements, including the type of test that can be used as evidence. Check the specific entry requirements for the micro-credential you are interested in. If you are looking for equivalent tests, this page might be useful. 

Note: There are also the following options:

  • Evidence that you have been awarded one of the following qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Bachelor Honours Degree, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree with English as the language of instruction from a tertiary education provider from one of these countries: New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States; 

  • Evidence that you have completed all primary education and at least three years of secondary (high school) education, provided that this was at schools in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States and the language of instruction was English. 

  • Evidence that you have completed five years of secondary education, provided that this was at schools in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom or the United States and the language of instruction was English.

What happens if I am not able to complete the micro-credential assessment on time?

If there are exceptional or unexpected circumstances that will prevent you from completing the micro-credential assessments on time, please directly contact the education institution that is providing the course to let them know if you are not going to be continuing with the micro-credential study. 

What is the outcome of the micro-credential?

Each micro-credential will have its own learning outcomes - the skills, knowledge and capabilities that you will have developed by completing the micro-credential.

Will I get a certificate after completing the micro-credential?

Following successful completion of the micro-credential, the education institution will send you a certificate or digital badge to indicate you have completed it. . 

Are the education institutions NZQA accredited?

All micro-credentials offered through Mission New Zealand are approved by NZQA to be delivered by accredited New Zealand education institutions.
